In an interview with American Cable News Channel, Araghchi said that the strait remains operational for international shipping. The Strait of Hormuz remains nonoperational for the United States and Israel. He has stated that for the rest of the world the Strait of Hormuz remains operational for international shipping. No vessel that is linked to the United States and Israel is permitted to pass through the waterway. This he has claimed in an interview.
His comments come at a time when tensions in the region are increasing following recent military developments. Despite this statement, reports suggest that hundreds of vessels — including several from India — remain stuck in the narrow waterway that connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman.
Araghchi further explained that ships from other countries can still use the passage. According to him, some shipping companies are voluntarily avoiding the area due to security concerns rather than because the route has been formally blocked. He added that even amid rising tensions, a number of oil tankers and cargo ships continue to travel through the strait.
